My fiancé's job is messed up. Please tell me what's legal in california

1.The managers make their employees bring their own water and even buy a case for the store to share and drink. The only running water is for washing dogs and bathroom sinks.

2.Her friend is having chemotherapy treatment and she wasn't feeling good. The manager took it upon himself to tell her she is of no use since sick, and to leave. She was then pointed. This is one of multiple cases where manager sends them home and points them without them asking.

3. Pointed for being late because of a medical reason. Fiancé has multiple problems with her ankles where her doctor is prescribing her medication. I work at 5am so she has to walk to work. Occasionally she will get disabled to the point where she cannot move and must rest. She is then sometimes a minute or two late and gets pointed. She has a doctors note and yet they don't care.

4. On weekends when I don't work, I drive her. she has opening shift so only the manager is there before her. When we get there the door is locked while her manager is in the back office. Manager cannot hear knocks and does not answer phone since it is before business hours. She will even ignore her cell calls. When she finally does get in, she clocks in late and is pointed.

TL; DR
1. No potable water. Employees responsibility
2. Pointed for manager sending you home
3. Pointed for being late due to medical reasons
4. Pointed for being locked out of work

This employer is a total jack-*** but unfortunately that's not illegal.

1) No employer is required to provide drinking water. What do you think construction workers (and a zillion other kinds of workers) do? They bring their own.

2) Yes the manager can send someone home if they either appear to be contagious, say they are not feeling well or are not able to adequately perform their job duties. If your friend wants the hours then she needs to just do her job without complaining about not feeling well.

3) Employees are required to be at work on time PERIOD. A doctor's note means squat. Doctors do not have the authority to require employers to bend or waive the attendance policy.

4) It is annoying as all heck. It's discourteous and a waste of time. However, I doubt it's illegal.

It sounds like it's time for a new job.

1) She is not responsible for supplying water to her coworkers. If she needs a drink, she should bring a water bottle and re fill it in the bathroom, if need be. Unless she has a contract with her employer to provide water, she cannot be made to do so or fired for not participating in buying water for the work environment.

2) and 4) She should contact the corporate headquarters or the supervisor for being pointed for such nonsense.

3) If she needs extra time to walk to work to be on time, then she should leave earlier. I am sorry, but a work environment expects employees to be on time.

You should follow up or do a google search for illegal employment practices in your state regarding employment. Or go to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO for short) and file an action against her employer.

Also any other employee of her company is subjected to her supervisor(s) should document and file suit as well.

Good luck.
