how do you know if a person respects you?

I'm of the impression that unless someone tells you they respect you or that they don't respect you, you really don't know.. I think typically you try to interpret their actions as respectful or not, but that's always subject to misinterpretation. I'm a man, in general women are pretty terrible about jumping to conclusions about someone just based on how they feel, but they may not have considered all the possibilities, and I find that even though I am a man, my personality is more of feeling personality ENFP so I have times when I do that too. But you can pretty much piece it together.

you put your medic alert tag in front of you - the person grabs it and reads it without your permission.. disrespectful?
person makes criticizes you publicly? disrespectful?
person speaks against you to others - disrespectful?
person pretends to like you but you find out later he wanted your wife..
see what I mean?
but none of these people would say they don't respect you

Based on your examples, I see no signs of respect. By their actions they may not have verbalized that they don't respect but they certainly displayed very clearly their lack of respect for you. You DO NOT treat people you respect in such a manner.

It is hard to say if someone respects you or not. People are born liars, and put on a face ever time you see you. You can never know another person's heart, only God can. As the prophet Jeremiah said," The heart is desperately wicked above all things, who can know it?" That isn't a direct quote, but it conveys the message. There is none righteous, no not one.

Just because someone shows disrespect doesn't mean they don't respect you. It just means they showed bad judgment. If it happens once or twice, you can overlook this. If it happens regularly, you can assume they don't respect you.



As a woman, I can tell you that there are times when I decide I don't like someone and could not tell you why. There is just something about those people that doesn't feel quite right to me, I guess.
