If you hold a white-collar job at an office, then you should without a doubt. It adds professionalsim not only to your image but the companies as well. If you were a client and walked into an office only to see employees in polos or collared shirts, would you be comfortable doing business with them. I surely wouldn't be. Also, it is a proven fact that within the first 30 seconds of meeting a person people already make their first impression which they will always have. If you don't look the part, then you definetly can't play it.

It depends on where you work and what your position is where you work. If you're at a call center or a fast food place, no. If you're a manager at a fast food place and they're a.n.a.l. about dress, then perhaps. However, my husband worked in the technical support department of a company where it was "business casual" but everyone wears jeans and a tshirt. Once he got promoted to manager, however, he was required to dress like an authorative figure, so out came the dockers. It depends on what the standard dress code is for your place of employment, and what position you hold, or what position you seek. Lastly, if it's not required and you don't have an agenda as to why you should wear a tie, if you're not comfortable in one, don't wear it. There's been a few studies that show people are more productive not by what they wear, but by how they feel in what they wear. If you're uncomfortable wearing a tie, chances are you'll be grouchy and unproductive since you'll be fiddling with the tie all day long. And if you're SUPER concerned...ask your boss!! Whatever the case, I'm sure you'll look handsome in the work place either way!

It depends on where you work and what your job is.

If it is a professional office and a majority of your co-workers wear ties, then yes, you should start wearing a tie.

If you are the boss in an office and you want to make sure everyone knows you are the boss, then start wearing a tie.

If you are working in a hazardous area where loose clothing items can get caught in machinery, then don't wear a tie.

If you are digging a trench alongside the highway for a new sewer line, then you would definitely not wear a tie.

If you are trying to get some points toward a review or promotion, then you need to start casually wearing a tie - switch from Polo-style shirts to Oxford... wear a tie once or twice a week at first... then go all out and wear one every day.

If you ask this question, then others at your workplace probably wear ties. If no one else wears one, and you're not a supervisor, I suggest -no tie. If, on the other hand, you come into contact with your supervisor (constantly...), go for it, IF, and only if, you are comfortable with a tie.

If you decide to wear a tie, might I suggest you learn several ways to tie that thing. I know of 2 ways to tie a necktie, the Winsor knot and the "four-in-hand". Use of these knots depends on the fabric of your tie.

That just depends on where you work. If you work in a business office, then yes, unless a tie would be too professional. I work in an office, and we have to dress nice four days a week, but ties aren't required. The men here still look nice and professional without one.

Depends on the type of job you do, your employer, and the expected dress code. I work in an office, but not required to wear a tie. The environment here is reasonably casual, just as long as the clothing is neat and presentable, not full of holes or shabby looking.

Man, that's so simple a question. If your job's dress code requires it, then do wear it. If it doesn't, then do so just whenever you want.

I am SO lucky I don't have to wear a tie. My office's dress code is very laid back.
