What to say on thank you cards?

I've recently received several graduation cards in the mail, some of which had very large checks in them. I'm going to send out my thank you cards as soon as possible, but I don't know what to write in them. I want to say something personal and heartfelt but I'm horrible with words, I always end up sounding like an idiot whenever I try to say something meaningful.
Any suggestions?

Thank them for sending you a card and mention the money and something specific you plan to spend it on (books, a laptop, ect)
