one of my group mates texted me at 4am this morning about our power point. she needed me to edit it again without realizing she has a copy herself she can edit.

our presentation is not until 2pm today!

why did she text me at 4am??

she told me i should have turned my phone off when sleeping. i don't do that because my mom could call in emergency.

Yes, it's wrong. Some people feel that texting is less intrusive than a phone call, and they can therefore text away any time of the day or night, regardless of whether the recipient is at work or school etc. A general rule: If it's inappropriate to call someone, because of the hour or any other reason, it's ALSO inappropriate to text. Your group mate thinks you should have turned your phone off so her late night texts wouldn't wake you? No. She shows an appalling lack of consideration for others, and you should tell her outright that it's unacceptable to try to get in touch with you so late.

Yeah, it's more than a bit rude to text someone in the middle of the morning if they are not expecting it or it's a real emergency. A lot like calling someone in the middle of the night.

that's why my phone gets turned off when I go to bed.

the girl is wrong.

It is definitely wrong to text that early. Not only is it rude but it's not even an emergency. She even have the nerf to tell you it was your fault you didn't turn off your phone? It wasn't very considerate of her in the first place.

I have done this before thinking the girl would get it that morning like email. She was upset. I did not realize she kept her phone on that late at night. A lot of people I know use their home phone when they're at home. Whatever you do, handle it respectfully. The was the last test message I sent her.

She likely assumed you would get it when you woke up, as she was going to sleep in after working so late on the project.

Most people silent their phone for the night. She was correct to assume that. She did not intentionally try to wake you during the night. See if there is an option on your phone so messages do not make a sound when received.

It's a bit annoying and not the right time. I wouldn't bother to answer that text. Maybe wait until 7 AM for replying back.

Yes, it is rude. Text her back about 6 - 7am , she will probably be asleep then (but it is a polite hour), with the message "It is rude to text people between 9pm and 6am".

I hate when people do this.. it's very inconsiderate. I leave my phone on in case of an emergency too and no one should tell you different. Tell her she's rude!
