Too many people died and the rest were too frightened to keep doing it. It was very popular, people started dying, and the novelty quickly wore off.
It will probably become popular again, the deaths will get a lot of attention, and then it will be come unpopular again.

young people are given more money now so can sniff manys another product that wouldnt have been available all those years ago. My dad used to drink coke and an asprin coz there used to be something in coke that reacted with the asprin and it'd get you high. kids used to be very inventive

They have changed the Chemicals in most glues now so that you no longer get the high off of it.

All drugs are dangerous, but glue (aka solvent) abuse is particularly hazardous, as its effects CAN be instantaneous.
It most certainly isn't the best as you put it!
