Can you suggest a decent excuse to get out of a meeting tonight?

I have this volunteer consulting thing I do, and I really don't feel like going to the meeting tonight. Our client isn't gonna be there - this is just the group of us who are working this project. Everything I would contribute tonight can be done via e-mail (truly).
But I need an excuse. Suggestions?

You ate something that made you sick.
So-and-so has your car.
Friend showed up from out of town and you want to go to dinner.
Leak in your home - repairman is coming this evening.
There are plenty of excuses.

I just received a call from a family member, and have a personal situation that I must attend to. When I return I will E-mail you with my contributions, sorry but family comes first. (make sure you send the E-mail at a later hour, and then inform everyone everything worked out)

"Family emergency"
As a volunteer you can just tell them that you had something come up, and you have e mailed your information! Seeing as this is the truth (you have something that is more important to you to do, even if it is just sitting in front of the TV with a cold beverage), you should have no problems.
It is not like they will fire you or dock your pay!!

You can always say a grandparent died or an aunt - Someone distant enough that you would not know right away but close enough you'd have to go - And then you can always say we weren't that close - So no further questions should be asked
Or better yet make it one of your wife's relative's if possible - then no details need to be given and so forth

Tell them that you have a prior committment and that you will contribute your information and ideas via email before you leave for the day.

Tell them that you just can't make it (don't lie because if someone sees you out tonight when you already said you're sick you'll get caught), and that you'll be gald to send them your info about it as soon as they want. If you call ne of them right now then send them the info right now. Tell them also that if they have questions you'll be glad to answer, and then keep your cell phone on so you can answer it.
Don't lie but just don't tell to much. If they ask why you can't make it tell them that it's kind of personal and you don't want to talk about it at the moment.

That might be tricky. I think it's best to tell the truth-- say you just aren't feeling well tonight.

Do you have children?
Say the babysitter fell through or one of them is throwing up.
