Why do people go to the vegan section just to be rude?

Every time I ask a vegan question, people try to tell me to eat meat. Why if I choose to not eat animal products that is my prerogative is it not? I just want a little insight into the minds of others, what are your thoughts?

Sadly, there are rude people everywhere. If the person is particularly nasty, then you have every right to report the response as insulting. Otherwise, just thumb it "down" and move on is your best alternative.

Have a polite day.

Etiquette takes over where laws end.

My daughter is vegan and she gets this a lot in her daily life. It's interesting that she noticed when she was vegetarian that there wasn't nearly as much hostility toward her life choices but when she began the vegan lifestyle she felt attacked from every angle.

I think that we have a deep collective investment in the vestiges of the family farm mentality that corporations who fleece the public by feeding them bio-engineered, chemically altered crap capitalize upon. It's almost religious fervor and it's completely induced by emotional manipulation by the media. The message is that if you don't drink milk and eat meat you are a commie pinko spy (insert modern equivalent here...). The fact is that human beings simply don't need meat nor dairy to survive. However, it's a personal choice. I myself make many vegan dietary choices but also eat some dairy and animal derived products occasionally. To each her/his own, but non-vegans need to lay off with the stupid abuse. It doesn't affect them if others choose not to eat meat/dairy (other than to help the earth on which they live, that is...).

EDIT: It's true that some (usually young) vegans also lecture meat eaters who are minding their own business. That's not OK either. We all need to respect one another.

I honestly think it's the opposite, in college I always get a lecture form the vegans for having hamburger. Hell, if you don't want to eat meat, don't eat it. I won't tell you to eat meat, don't tell me I can't buy a car with leather seats. It's a 2 way street

Most people say that in a joking matter and have eaten meat ever since they were born so they don't understand it when you cut it out of your life, i wouldn't take it too personally.

If you want to punish yourself by not eating nice food be my guest.

Good food is one of the pleasures life has to offer so why not enjoy it.

I personally couldnt give a crap what you eat or do.

You live your life, I live mine.
