The V8 Juice Bonk to the head -- Are your kids hitting each other or even you this way now?

When I first saw the V8 Juice TV commercial with the baby in the stroller, hitting her mother on the head when Mom was teasing her with a french fry -- "Bonk! You could have had a V8!" -- I thought it was cute. But now they have expanded that campaign to others. A wife now bonks her husband on the head, and does it several times with each new thing he picks up and is about to eat. They've even got a dog now, bonking his owner on the head for making a less healthy food choice.

So if I were a kid, I would think this was a great new technique to get away with hitting other kids on the head and exclaiming "Wow! You could have had a V8....HA HA HA!"

Are your kids doing this now? Are they bonking you on the head from the back seat as you're driving and looking the other way?

Monkey See / Monkey Do. I'm not sure I like this ad campaign anymore. I predict it is going to inspire a head bonking epidemic. (And for you Brits, yes I know "bonking" means something else to you.)

I had that smae concern in regards to another item



In 1970, Mattel came out with a doll called Growing Up Skipper.



When you swung her left arm behind her and up, she would grow slightly taller and get smallsih breasts, plus slightly narrow at the waist.



i was concerned there would be a rash of 12-year-old girls with broken arms from boys who thought this is how you get boobies on girls

LOL, yes I'm a Brit and was having a real good laugh to myself over the bonk/bonking part so I'm glad to see that you know it stands for something else this side of the pond....



I fully agree with the impact that this type of advert has on some of the viewing public. We had a series of adverts running here for a while where people were getting "Tangoed" and they started to be copied by youngsters....and many people are of the opinion that this type of advert started the "happy slapping" craze amongst youngsters where one youngster would just run up to, and slap another person and then run away, all whilst it was being caught on mobile phone cameras. Advertising companies should really look at the potential long term effects of their adverts before airing them

Well, you do have a point. Things like that do tend to start a trend.....but, I have to say that my kids never behaved that way in the car or anyplace else because I taught them to always behave and respect others. They were always very sweet and would never do that.



The real problem here is that you have all these parents out there that pretty much let their kids run the show. Its as though whatever the kids want to do - they do it and the parents are too afraid, or do not know how to teach them to behave. Its really sad actually.



Believe me, any epidemic such as this is not the fault of the commercial, it is the fault of the parents that do not have any control over their children - period!

Start by explaining to your kids that hitting is wrong, just because it was on a commercial doesnt make it right. Then explain to them that they do not need to do everything they see on TV and in the movies, because most of it isn't real.

Take the responsibility and time to explain these things to your children, and you will be rewarded in the end.

V-8 has had the "bonk" thing for years.....since I was a child, and I never went around hitting people, nor do my children.



People need to stop letting the TV raise their children.

I agree its not a good commercial. Do you remember the 7-up commercial where the guy threw the can and killed the dog? They didn't keep the commercial on long. Email or call the company and voice your concern. Might not help unless enough people do it but its a start.
