Question:
Should I report my Polish neighbours?

About a year ago, new Polish neighbours began renting the house next door to me. They have been a complete nuisance ever since. When they first arrived, there was a young woman (about 30) and an older lady (60`s) one guy (about 35) and a young girl (about 4/5) none of them speak much English at all.

I gave them a bag of soft toys for the kid, tried to talk to them a few times but for the most part they just don't understand much English but I have always preferred to get on with my neighbours than to ignore them (which we do often in the UK these days) so I have remained cordial, lending tools, saying hello, ect ect.

Then, six months in, the little girl disappears, and is replaced with a little boy... :/ from here things get a bit cooky. Visits to the house by LONG staying house guests (i.e. visitors that turn up and stick around for a few months) have gone through the roof, there are so many different faces that come and go that I simply have no idea who the hell is who. The little lad crys and screams EVERY day, I have never known a kid winge as much as this kid does.

Various other kids have visited over the last year, they smashed my garden fence, jumped over the fence and bust my greenhouse, broke my garden fence lights, and broke a small hacksaw. On top of this I get them all banging around all day (its like a herd of elephants rumbling about) I get the kid bumping about and sometimes crying from 7 am and I get the adults stood outside their back door talking STUPIDLY loud often till 2 a.m.

Ive tried to talk to them, when the kids knocked over my greenhouse I even went round and yelled like hell at them, to which I just got the woman (30) barely comprehending me, with one eye looking at me and the other looking for me.

I hate confrontation, and I dont want to p*ss them off, and truth be told, I am not sure anything they are doing is illegal, I just simply dont know what the hell to do.

I am a third generation migrant to the UK, my grandparents came here in the 50`s from Italy. They learned the language, paid their taxes, made friends and integrated. This all makes me very frustrated.

You need to contact the landlords and complain to them. Put everything into a letter, setting out the points and demand that they sort the problem out. If you want payment for the broken items, include a bill for that.

Then every time they make a noise, damage your property you need to contact the landlord and complain.

Trust me, once you start complaining the landlords will get fed up and tell the people to behave or move out.

Good luck.

If you're concerned and it affects your well-being, call the cops whenever you hear noise when everyone else including yourself are trying to sleep. They've already ruined your property and obviously don't have any parenting skills. It's time that you put your foot down and stop trying to be so nice. Yes, there's a language barrier but respect for other people's things is a universal thing that should be learned as a child.

Good luck to you!

1. They are doing what they do in their country. They do not know UK's way of doing things. They will never change. The only thing you can do for peace of mind is move.

2. If you have the money, talk with an attorney and tell him/her everything you have told us here. Be sure to mention the girl disappearing and the little boy appearing (could it possibly be that the little girl was the boy and now has a haircut).

3. Ask the attorney about the vandalism to your property and other items.

4. You need someone to talk with them in their language.

I doubt if you will ever have real peace. Time to look for another place to live. Possibly an adult community.

I wish you well.

Well, here where I am at in the U.S. we have what's called the Humane Society and animal control. There are pretty good about animal abuse. They would definitely check it out. If you have something like that over there call them!! That rabbit is being abused. If you have to, steal the rabbit and take it in yourself until you can find it a home. I know what you mean. I used to be a meter reader for the power company here. I worked in a city that was rated as the worst city in the entire U.S. for crime, poverty and such. Very run down. East St. Louis, Illinois. I used to see the WORST cases of animal neglect. Ususlly dogs. Tied up in the back yard skin and bones with welts and skin diseases all over them. The dogs were used to keep criminals off their property. Nothing more. Totally neglected. It made me sick. I called the Humane Society several times it was so bad.

Call or visit your local RSPCA shelter, they'll deal with it appropriately, I remember my family doing this once (but not on a neighbour, it was somebody we knew and had inside information that we could have used, but not even on our estate) and they carried out an investigation into the claims (they have to as its their duty) and from there they can decide if the animal is being badly treated or not. May I suggest making the claim anonymous, they can't use your name anyway but they have to keep records, although you may not be able to do this with them look into that possibility. Hope I've helped.

Seems like the only thing you can complain about is the noise I believe. I don't think you can do anything directly about the people staying for a long time but you may wish to read up here ( http://www.environmental-protection.org.uk/noise/environmental-noise/noise-pollution/) in regards to what we call noise pollution. However I'm not sure how much they can do - but as you said you've tried talking to them so maybe some authority will make the message clear.

You are a respectable person so yes do your duty, go ahead and report them. Get the authorities round especially if you think kids are coming and going. Too many people ignore things like this and feel they're being nosey and not complaining enough. You could be doing some one a favour.

By UK law, landlords are meant to provide all neighbours with their contact details if ever a situation like your occurs.

If there is no contact provided they will get into trouble.

If you have the landlords contact, consistently bug him about his tenants!

It will drive him barmy & them out of the house!

You have the right to live a quiet civilized life, I would go and talk to them once and if things don't improve report them for the noise. When talking to them be calm and civilized but make sure they understand what you want. Hope things improve for you.

contact environmental health at your local council and they will send you a Pack to start the procedures to stop the nuisance. try not to make unfounded allegations in your anger and frustration. if you think children are being brought to stay without their parents, hence the crying and behaviour problems, contact social services..they need regulations and permission to child mind

Usually, that is too long for me. I think it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other people can't.
