I'm not perfect when it comes to grammar and spelling. But, reading some of the posts on this site makes me worry about the future of the world.

Not everyone accessing the Internet speaks or writes English as a first language. Not everyone has the benefit of perfect grammar and spelling championships. Additionally, not having to be face to face with the grammar police makes it a lot easier to be lax. Additionally, language is an ever fluctuating entity influenced by a great number of things of which the Internet is only one. So don't blame the Internet. blame program spell checkers, the decrease in readership, the bureaucracy that causes teachers to teach to tests as opposed to real learning that encourages the love of language, the decrease in the language arts. there's never just one thing.

For starters, some bright Education major needed a hook for his Doctoral thesis and invented Creative Spelling. Sadly, the idea caught on - that youngsters would magically learn to spell correctly by third or fourth grade even though they were allowed to spell however they wanted in first and second. (Don't believe me? Look at the link.)
This had a lot to do with why we homeschooled our boys for five years, using a secular program - but we caught it a little too late for my eldest. He still has a lot of trouble spelling, now in his second year of college.

I agree with you, but some users are actually people who have no formal education on the English language as you can see from the type of questions or answers that are posted. I remember a friend who was trying to learn English asked me when I told him that I ate dinner with Japanese friends: "Good parti? Ok, how many Japanese did you eat on the table?" Of course, he meant how many are they, and not OMG I actually eat those Japanese. Hahaha....
Don't worry about the future of the English language, they are alive and well and I am now really wanting to eat those Japanese friends. Hehe..
Good luck to you. God bless you.

People making excuses for these lazy, ignorant, uneducated people only adds support to the idea that "it doesn't make any difference". That is the real shame. How can the kids become literate with adults like these?
Thanks for the question.

My dear, join the club. It's absolutely appalling. I shudder to think that these kids are tomorrows leaders. Maybe Global Warming has it's upside after all.

Texting. "Leet" speak. AOL speak. Chat speak. George W. Bush speak.
THAT is what happened to correct grammar.
THAT, and the fact that when you DO try to speak correctly and/or type correctly, people call you down for it.
