I'm faced with a dilemma regarding a colleague for an assignment?

This colleague didn't contribute to our team work for the last assignment and was just handed the easy task of printing all our work together - which she also did during class time!

Today, she called me and said she will either come or not for our second assignment. I called up another colleague of mine and he's saying he doesn't care if she gets the same mark as us.

But my thinking is that she doesn't deserve any mark, and thus I have to talk to my instructor about it if she doesn't show up today. What do you think is the best way of dealing with this problem?

Well, I wouldn't mention what you think someone "deserves" to the instructor.

I would simply ask the instructor if he's going to mark everyone equally on the overall result, or if he'll be requesting to know who did what for a more individual scoring, or a combination of the two.

Then you'll know what he's going to do.

Don't think you can change it, if it's not the answer you want, though.

Coming even remotely close to telling the instructor how to grade is not a good idea.

Why she would call you to tell you that she will either come or not is pointless isn't it? Obviously it will be one or the other. If she doesn't show just leave her name off the assignment.

On the current assignment you could list you and your colleague as the content contributors and give her a separate title like "compilation and copy editor".

You don't need to point it out to the professor. Give her enough rope and she'll hang herself with it. Slackers usually do.

Tell them very sternly how you feel, and tell them how you would like them to solve the problem. You should also give them an ultimatum, I.E. If you don't participate we will no longer allow you to work with us.

Do not do harm to this person.
