I have run into idiots from time to time that have corrected me on my grammar, when it was clearly obvious I was right! What is wrong with these people? It's embarrassing to have to correct the complainer that is trying to look smart by criticizing you!

I hate it when stupid people try to look smart!

I think it's just flat out rude to just correct someones grammar anyway! Is it really that bad if someone says something a little wrong? Big deal! There are more important things in life! I had someone that used to correct my grammar CONSTANTLY and I was and ENGLISH major when I was in college (not saying I know everything, just saying I can talk with some sense). I don't even think everything he corrected was accurate. I finally sat him down one day and told him that I didn't feel the need to pursue a friendship with someone that is determined to try and be mentally superior. That is not what a friendship is anyway. He stopped correcting my grammar.

I once took an advertising class as an elective, and my professor was always trying to correct my papers by circling the word "its" (In this context: The cat licked its face)

She was always trying to tell me that it should be the possessive form of "it's" with an apostrophe. It drove me nuts. Finally, at the end of the class, I just said, "You're wrong. This is my major. I know how to write. Give me the points back."

As a person who uses Her Majesty's English properly, I have been corrected. It amuses me, as I'm well aware that the corrector is, in fact, quite incorrect. My reaction to the correction - if verbal - is to simply flash a bemused smile. If the correction is in writing, I ignore it. One must always remember what Mrs. Bucket (pronounced bouquet) had to say, "I find it quite annoying when others act superior. It makes it so much more difficult for those of us who truely are".

I am glad you took my advice and stopped capitalizing every word of your questions. I find it amusing that you're talking about spelling when I have rightly corrected yours several times now. Don't take it personally...just tryin' to spread the knowledge.

if you so know that you are right and he is wrong, make him correct you in public, that will only embarass him, and you get the last laugh.

yes i hate it.

I agree with you, they should not be rude and politely accept your words.
