Question:
How do I politely decline an invitation?
2007-11-10 06:16:52 UTC
This girl invited me, and many more to a party in England for new years, the problem is most of the crew is from England, and I am from USA and there is no way I could manage the money to go there. And even if I had the money, I don't think I would want to spent my new years with them. So what do I say in the email, that politely tells her I wont freaking come across the ocean.

Say: Sorry finances and family prevent me from making the trip this year thanks for the invite!

You really don't think she expected you to come do you?

First of all know and realise that this invite is over the top. If she doesn't realise that you won't come across the ocean, then let her know it. In your email, say "thank you very much for your invitation, however I can't make it due to the usual family commitments, hope you can understand".

Just say thank you very much for the thought but sorry i will be unable to attend. Maybe she just invited you to be polite and doesn't want to spend new years with you either!

just tell her that you accept other invitations before you received her and that you gave your word that you will be there and that there will be important from your work and from your family and you just can not be the black sheep but promise her or t least make her believe that you will join her for another party next year

tell her that you are sorry for this situation and that you are convinced that she will have a great party not like yours which will be a mess and so on and on

How about this:

"Thank you for inviting me to your New Year's party. Sounds great, but unfortunately I won't be able to make it this time. Looking forward to seeing you some other time."

No reason to explain why you won't be joining them. If they ask, just say you've already made other plans. What's so tough about that?

Wow...that's a annoying one. in case you reside some distance away, then state which you will not be around interior the youngster's life very plenty and he or she ought to %. somebody which may be around to help. If no longer that, i'm fairly uncertain. in line with possibility you ought to declare which you will fairly prefer to, yet be attentive to which you will not be waiting to hold up this variety of intense honor as a results of--examples: being the godmother of alternative peoples babies and having little ones of your very own, vacationing plenty alongside with your activity, no longer being very non secular consequently no longer questioning which you are the guy that could desire to help with non secular progression, etc. in basic terms innovations, wish I helped.

Just explain to her that you appreciate the invite but have a previous engagement that you had already promised to attend.

"Thank you very much for your thoughtful invitation; I regret that I won't be able to accept. Best wishes for the happiest New Year ever. Yours truly, Greg"

Got that? No need to explain WHY you're giving it a miss or to apologize. (To regret is NOT to apologize.)

just explain to her wht you explained to all of us

tell her that you dont have the money to go over there and that you had in mind a fun time here in the god old u.s.

you made som ereally good poimts, and she can't possibly be mad at you for reclining her invitation on going out of the country

honesty is the best policy

"Thank you for your kind invite, but I have long-standing plans in place to see my relatives on New Year. Best wishes, [name]." - No-one can argue with this.

Tell them you appreciate that they thought to invite you but you are unable to attend since you can't afford such a trip at the current time.

Dear so and so ,

Thanks a lot for your kind invitation . I would love to come to your party , but a previous engagement will not allow me to attend your party ........

since you are replying by email, try to make it as formal as possible to really express your regret. use a site like http://iomoi.com to send a free trial e-stationary. they have ones that are holiday themed. just write:

sara (or whatever her name is), thank you so much for inviting me to holiday with you. unfortunately, i am unable to attend as i have plans to celebrate with my family. hopefully we can get together at another occasion.

john (or whatever your name is)

i know you might be thinking, "jeez, this is a little too formally written," but these types of things can make all the difference in creating an impression because in emails it is typically difficult to evaluate someone's "tone" of voice and can lead to things being misunderstood & hurt feelings.
