Question:
Why is the internet so full of weird and deranged people?

Even here on the sacred haven (eh? y'wot?) that is Yahoo Answers you get freaks who ramble on about how brilliant they are at everything and how everyone else is stupid and listens to conspiracy theories, who respond to each question with a tirade of poorly written, ill-informed and highly prejudiced abuse WHICH OFTAN LOKS !!! LIIIIKE THIS!?!!?@, who get into ongoing and crazed feuds on the YouTube comment box - I am certain that "let's take this outside" will die out as a phrase and be replaced with "c'mon then, lets take this on YouTube" - who boil the problems of the universe down to President Obama, who persistently wish cancer and other poxes upon other peoples mothers, etc...

If walking down the street was anything like surfing the web, you wouldn't be able to move for perverts and screaming hobo's drunkenly lunging themselves at you from behind a bin every five minutes. However, these lunatics who festoon the internet manage to avoid detection and a mass culling whilst milling about the 'real world'. How do they do it? Where do they come from? Are they like this in their daily lives? Why do they only behave this way whilst online, half-communicating with other people who they can't see? How do they avoid being exposed as complete nutters? What would their mothers say?

People do not do this in their daily lives. This is what I like to call the "graffiti phenomenon:" When given the opportunity to say something anonymously, people tend to say all the things they wouldn't say under other circumstances. They also tend to say less of the things they normally would. Why would you do that anonymously when you already do it under normal circumstances?

Just think of the average message board as a large white publicly visible wall. Everyone who posts on it can do so anonymously, and every person has an unlimited supply of spray paint. This is what you get. It doesn't really surprise me that much.

I personally think that people act this way because they can. These types of people are weird and anti-social off-line so when they are online they do whatever they want because there is no way anyone can trace back to them unless their being perverted and even then they can make fake names and not use the same computer twice. Also this secret identity they give themselves gives them more power to be weird and destructive because nobody knows who they are. Most of these people act this way because they never had any friends or friendly people in their lives so what they do and say to people have no effect on them.

If your not careful your going to end up with an ulcer the size of a house & you will probably be dead at forty with a burned out gizzard from worry about people who in fact only at best deserve your sympathy & wost a chuckle I personally think it is interesting and highly amusing because

it seems me its people like yourself all these above weird people are hoping to upset & as long as you show that it bothers you the worse they will become

if in fact that is all you have to worry about your in good shape be thankful and of good cheer

sit back and drink another beer, Cheers!

I honestly believe that the reason the internet seems more full of weirdos is because they can be anonymous. People let their real selves out on the internet and are less scared to be who they really are. When you pass people on the streets, you don't really know them or what they do... they are probably the same people who are weirdos on the internet. I think people who sit there and argue on the internet about dumb things have no life.

Anonymity is the key word here.

Many people would do crazy things if they could remain anonymous so why not act like a nut if you feel like it online?

The internet is a way to take a sneak peek into the seedy underbelly that is the deranged human mind.

hahah, no, they do not "exist" in real life. Many "normal" people like to let it loose on the internet, because you can't really track them down- they are anonymous. Of course, some are like that in real life, and some have several accounts. But in reality, they do this on the net because of the security that it won't really affect their lives. No-one from their real life knows it is them, and no-one can fight them physically etc.
